"Exeter Constituency Labour Party (CLP) was founded shortly after the end of the First World War and achieved its first electoral success in 1929 with the election of a City Councillor in Exwick. Labour has contested every general election in Exeter since 1923 but, prior to the election of Ben Bradshaw in 1997 had only taken the parliamentary seat on one occasion - in 1966 when Gwyneth Dunwoody defeated the sitting Conservative MP."

Exeter Labour Party organises numerous social events throughout the year, providing an opportunity for our members and supporters to meet in informal "non political" environments, including Whipton and Pinhoe Labour Club, and the Red Ramblers walking club.

There is an active Women's Forum. Formal meetings take place only when necessary. The Women's Forum operates via email and personal contact. Every woman who joins the Exeter Labour Party is included in the Forum and is encouraged to take as active a part as they are able.

If you would like to join the Labour Party, or volunteer to help us secure Labour representation locally and nationally, please write, telephone or e-mail us.
