Giant Knitted Gingerbread House

The inspiration for this great community project came from textile designer Alison Murray and her mother, Ann Murray.

This was their second giant knitted project, after a giant knitted Christmas tree.

The Giant Knitted Gingerbread House was created in May 2006 by around 500 knitters across the UK and around the world. The house is made from 10-inch knitted squares sewn together, and includes a knitted bed, Welsh dresser, stove, cuckoo clock, gingerbread man and toys.

After originally raising £10,000 for North Devon Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital forSick Children, the Giant Knitted Gingerbread House is now touring to continue fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.

Click here for more information on the original event at Atlantic Village, and a knitting pattern for the gingerbread men (link opens new tab or window).
