North Devon Green Party's aims for action on Devon County Council

Communities

  • developing sustainable communities by ensuring increasing % allocations of affordable housing.
  • Prioritising local shops, local food and local businesses within flourishing local communities.
  • Improving public spaces and recreational facilities, thereby reducing anti-social behaviour.
  • Supporting local representation, not a distant Unitary Authority.

Transport

  • Better and more integrated public transport.
  • The introduction of 20 mph speed limits in targeted residential areas.
  • Encouraging tourism by public transport.

Climate & Energy

  • Free insulation for every Devon home that needs it.
  • More support for renewable energy; opposition to nuclear power.
  • Making council buildings, schools and hospitals more environmentally friendly.
  • Supporting the Transition Town movement.
Schools
  • The introduction of free healthy school meals for every pupil.
  • Replacing SATs with in-school evaluations (monitored by the authority) giving teachers more time to teach.

Environment

  • More recycling, composting, reusing and repairing; less wastage; no incineration.
  • Protecting wildlife.
