Nature Activities to download


The Woodland Trust has 150 'Nature Detectives' kids' activity packs suitable for children from toddler age upwards, available for download from this address:  http://www.naturedetectives.org.uk/summer/   Activity packs include Summer Play booklets, picnic kits, treasure hunts, tree packs, ideas for light evenings, identifying leaves, ladybird activities, leaf masks and a photo competition.

Plymouth Activities for Autistic and Disabled Children

Plymouth City Council's Aiming High programme kicks off with a series of holiday clubs including stimulating outdoor and indoor activities.

Plymouth Youth Sailing offers the chance to try dinghy sailing. Children can develop their personal and social skills in a stimulating environment out on the water.

Disabled children can learn bushcraft on Dartmoor with skilled leaders and youngsters with autism can take to the stage at the Theatre Royal's TR2 club in the drama and arts groups.

In order to take part in the organised activities children need to have obtained a diagnosis and referral. The referral form is available on the School's Out website or from the school parent support advisors. For more information about these activities contact Janet Greaves-Stocker on 01752 307325.

North Devon Activities for Kids Aged 11-16

 

Arts Activities

South Molton:

There will be art and mixed media collage workshops on Wednesday 28 July and Thursday 29 July, 10am to 4pm, at 1 East Street, South Molton. Wear old clothes and bring a packed lunch.

There will be music and percussion workshops on Tuesday 27 July and Friday 30 July, 10am to 4pm, at 1 East Street, South Molton. The workshop attendees will produce a short piece of original music using drumming, rap, beat box and software. Bring a packed lunch.

Sticklepath

Sticklepath Youth Club will be doing street dance, music composition and working with software to make original music on Wednesdays 28 July and 4, 11, 18, 25 August, 7pm to 9pm.

Fremington Youth Club will be doing street dance, music composition and working with software to make original music on Thursday 29 July and 5, 12, 19, 26 August 7pm – 9pm.

Croyde

Croyde School of Rock will be holding sessions on Friday 3 August, 10am to 4pm at Croyde Youth Club. Some  musical knowledge and own instrument required. Call Chris Burrows on 07970 051058 to book a place.

Combe Martin

Combe Martin Carnival will include graffiti art and rap sessions on Tuesday 10 August, 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, at Hollands Park Football Ground in Combe Martin. Book your places through the carnival committee on 01271 882050.

Supersport summer activity programme


North Devon Council's Supersport activities for children up to 15 years old begin on 26 July and include a skate camp, adventure days, cookery workshops, cheerleading and gymnastics, outdoor art, cricket, football and rugby, bikeability cycling, surfing, carnival and theatre workshops and street dance, led by qualified coaches. These activities are free for children eligible for the 'don't stop me now' scheme.

Exeter area:  Family activities

Exeter has two playdays during the summer holidays.  Both of them are free but may include a small charge for some activities:

    1) Wednesday 4 August, 12 noon to 4pm at St Thomas Pleasure Ground

National Playday, suitable for all ages. This playday will include face painting, Play Rangers, creative fun, dancing and much more.  Local children are helping to plan and organise this Playday, so come along and join in with the fun!  


    2) Family Playday 2 Riverside Valley Park Playday, Wednesday 18 August from 12 noon to 4pm
    at Bromhams Farm Playing Fields, Riverside Valley Park (follow signs from Exeter Quayside)

Come and explore the Riverside Valley Park, and take part in our exciting new Playday.  Activities include cycling, canoeing, storytelling, creative fun, face painting and lots more.  Suitable for all ages.

Museum activities


The Royal Albert Memorial Museum is organising a series of history themed family activity days:

'A History of the World in 10 objects'


Family activities at St Nicholas Priory, the Mint, off Fore Street, Exeter EX4 3BL (admission charge applies)

Friday 30 July. Puzzle Jugs.


10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30 to 3.30pm, admission charge

The Exeter Puzzle Jug is one of RAMM’s most prized possessions and one of the objects chosen for the History of the World project. Come and make your own version or invent your own puzzle jug or cup. Why not follow this with a visit to A History of the World in 10 Objects exhibition at Exeter’s Guildhall? All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. If an activity is very busy, there may be a short wait. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty!

Free family activities at Exeter Cathedral Chapter House

RAMM family activity day: Bronze Age Dartmoor 1: Life and Landscapes



Wednesday 28 July, 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30 to 3.30pm, free
The Chapter House, Exeter Cathedral EX1 1HS

Explore Bronze Age culture with special reference to sites on Dartmoor. See how researchers identify pollen grains which indicate how the landscape has changed and been altered by man. Make Beaker pots with burial goods to place in a cist and decorate your own bronze dagger. Perhaps follow this with a trip to Dartmoor and see our Going for Bronze exhibition at Yelverton or come on our Bronze Age on Dartmoor Day on 11 August.  All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. If an activity is very busy, there may be a short wait. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty! RAMM family activity day: A Tudor Picnic


Thursday 29 July, 10.30am to 3.30pm, admission charge
St Nicholas Priory, the Mint, off Fore Street, Exeter EX4 3BL

Queen Elizabeth I loved picnics and all sorts of outdoor pursuits. We will be playing Tudor Games and, weather permitting, picnicking outdoors (between 12.30 and 1.30pm). Bring a picnic, we will provide Tudor honey toast.  All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. If an activity is very busy, there may be a short wait. Some activities are messy so do wear clothes that can get dirty!
