Young people in Kingsbridge have been going wild at Go Wild. Young people recently went 'back to basics' with an overnight survival camp, building and sleeping in their own shelters and cooking all their food on a camp fire. As young people had to carry all their equipment, food and water to the site, luxury items were left behind at home. Mobile phones and MP3 players made way for chatting around the campfire and listening to the owls in the surrounding woods. After a gourmet dinner of chilli con carne and chocolate bananas, enough ghost stories were told to make sure all the group got a good night's sleep in their four-star accommodation - a tarpaulin hung between two trees. The next morning saw the group up bright and early, cooking up yet another feast for breakfast - bacon sandwiches - before striking camp and returning home. The project organised and run by Devon Youth Service, is based at Kingsbridge Youth Venue (formally Horizons) on Fore Street. The youth centre is currently open five nights a week and offers young people an opportunity to take part in a wide range of exciting activities as well as providing practical information and support for any young person who requires it. Anyone who would like to find out more about Go Wild or what other activities are on offer at the youth venue can contact Karen Price on 01548 854656.
