Sunday Market And Car Boot Sale (6:45AM - 12:45PM)

Probably the biggest and best Market and Car Boot sale in the South West!

Every Sunday from 6.45am - 12.45pm the market is attended by approximately 50 traders, up to 400 car boot sellers and 5,000 buyers.

The market and car boot is based at the Matford Park & Ride car parks, Matford Centre, Matford Park Road, Marsh Barton - just a ten minute drive from the City Centre.

See the website address for a map and more details.

Car Boot Volunteers

Every week a different charity or voluntary organisation located within a 10 mile radius of Exeter assist with the organisation and running of the Sunday car boot sale.  The Charity receives payment of £1.75 for every car ticket sold, or £3.00 for every van/trailer ticket and early bird ticket sold, with a guaranteed minimum payment of £400.00.

If you are involved with a charity and would be interested in assisting at the car boot sale, you need to provide a minimum of 12 volunteers from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Please contact 01392 665480 before to add your details to the mailing list so you can make your application for 2008.

Comedy Show At Tiverton Comedy Hall (1:00AM - 1:00AM)
Monday August 4th - now onsale

The line-up for August 4th is a real cracker. Headline is Simon Evans, who will be familiar to most for TV work but is highly respected for his writing talent too, and is much in demand. He has written with Lee Mack on 'Not Going Out' (one of my favourite shows), for Lily Savage and Johnny Vaughn, and of a plethora of Radio 4 comedy shows. Expect excellent timing and superb material.

Opener is Arnab Chanda, a quick talking American who has settled back in the UK and is taking the circuit by storm. He has recent comedy awards to his name, toured with Simon Amstell this year, and is breaking into TV and radio on shows like Out To Lunch and The Frankie Boyle Show.

Compere is the brilliant Jarred Christmas, who is very welcome back. The witty New Zealander is a top guy and very funny as many of you will remember. His improv group is famous in London and this makes him shine as a compere.

Tickets available where?

On the website www.comedyhall.co.uk. They will also be available at Twyford Photography and Jolly Vintner from this lunchtime. Send a cheque to S Lodge c/o Oxygen, New hall, Tiverton EX16 6QP if you prefer.

See you then.

Steve Lodge

Don't forget that the line-up is subject to change for every event with no refunds. I have to say it. It's the law.

Welcombe Open Studios 08 (10:00AM)

Now in it’s third year, Welcombe open studios gives you an opportunity to visit the studios of artists, designers & makers in this beautiful and secluded village on the North Devon coast.

Welcombe is hidden away on the coast at the border of north devon and cornwall and as an area of outstanding natural beauty, with it’s stunning beach at Welcombe Mouth, the open studios event gives you the perfect excuse to walk or cycle (or drive, if you must) around our lovely village.

This year, the 3 day event sees seven artists opening their doors to visitors, giving you the opportunity to meet the artists, see where & how their work is created and buy or commission work from them.

Wendy Chiles - Figurative realism specialising in oil on canvas
David Westacott - Functional earthenware decorated using coloured clay slips
pachadesign - Contemporary furniture and accessories from locally sourced reclaimed and natural resources
Geoff Rice - Idiosyncratic paintings
Rebecca Cohen - Colourful representational work, life studies from the model, work on a personal theme and some domestic ceramics
Jean Goodchild - Colourful pictures designed in textiles and embroidery silk
Paul Jenner - Eye-catching and thought provoking photography printed on various media including his very popular canvases.

Most studios are within walking distance of each other, but all have parking facilities if you do wish to drive to each studio.  When planning your visit please take into consideration that most artists do not have credit card facilities so can only take payments by cash or cheques.

Our wonderful local pub the Old Smithy Inn, run by Lee and Chrissy, serves award winning food, good wine & real ales.  Open for lunch and dinner, the menu has fresh locally sourced fish and seafood, well reared local meats and varied vegetarian options available.

Also opening their doors for the 3 day event, Kings Cottage Nursery will be selling a wide variety of plants and also have a picnic area available for those visitors who might want to bring their own lunch.   As well as tempting you with a beautiful selection of plants, Mark and Angela offer garden & border design and landscaping & maintenance.

Detailed leaflets with a map to find all studios will be available from the village shop as you drive into Welcombe, the Old Smithy inn, the Yarner Trust, the Pottery & all studios, as well as being sign-posted around the village.

If you would like us to post you a leaflet please email us at info@welcombearts.org.uk with your postal address or telephone Glenn and Sammy on 01288 331505.  For all details visit www.welcombearts.org.uk
