DEBI, the Devon Environmental Business Initiative set up to encourage Devon businesses to take up environmentally friendly business strategies, has launched it's annual Environmental Awards.

Devon County Council, who is again sponsoring the Sustainable Devon award, is encouraging businesses, schools and communities across all sectors of the county to enter.

With 5 categories including Environmental Goods and Services, Climate Change Innovation, Sustainable Devon, Food, Farming and Fishing, and the Environmental Champion, all types of business, industry and even individuals can enter or be nominated.

DEBI is a non profit-making organisation and charity that supports and advises business on how to lower their carbon footprint, adopt sustainable practices and provides information on changing legislation and systems development.

Rob Hetherington, Chief Economist, Devon County Council said:

“Devon’s is a rural based economy which prides itself on its environmental awareness. The landscape and environment is one of which we are justly proud and the way of life here is second to none.

“The DEBI awards encourage our business, community and public sectors to think seriously about their environmental activities. It makes sense, in the current climate, to give our businesses a natural competitive advantage and increase business sales and capacity through resourcefulness, enterprise and sustainable practices.”
