Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is getting truly spaced out this month with a series of free film screenings for people of all ages.

The films are being shown in connection with the Museum's current headline exhibition ‘Space Age: Exploration, Design and Popular Culture’, which is on a national tour from the V&A Museum of Childhood in London. Screenings, all of which will begin at 1pm, are as follows:

Saturday 6 June – Close Encounters of the Third Kind (certificate PG)
Saturday 13 June – WALL.E  (certificate U)
Saturday 20 June – Apollo 13  (certificate PG)
Saturday 27 June – ET: The Extra Terrestrial (certificate PG)

Admission is free but tickets must be booked in advance on 01752 304774. Any unreserved tickets will be available on the day although the Museum cannot guarantee that any will remain.

Our ‘Space Age’ exhibition looks at how space has influenced design, music, fashion and film – and we thought it would be good to screen some of the movies that have been inspired by it,” said Marketing and Audience Development Officer, Jo Clarke.

We’re starting and finishing with films directed by the great Stephen Spielberg – the unique and original UFO story that is ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ on 6 June and the Oscar-winning ‘ET’ on 27 June. In between we’ll be showing ‘WALL.E’, which is sure to be popular with families, and the classic Apollo 13 starring Tom Hanks. People can even come in fancy dress as their favourite characters from space if they wish!”

The Museum runs special events throughout the year that are related to its galleries, collections and exhibitions, most of which are free. For information visit our Museum events and activities web page or call 01752 304774.

‘Space Age: Exploration, Design and Popular Culture’ will be on display until Saturday 25 July. Admission is free and opening hours are 10am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.
