Rallying call to recycle more as Chelson landfill closes
Plymouth residents are being urged to double their recycling and composting efforts as the city’s landfill site closes for good.
On 31 March, the last lorry will tip rubbish into the ground at the Chelson Meadow landfill site, marking the end of an era in the way Plymouth’s disposes of its waste.
Instead the city will be looking to develop more environmentally-friendly ways to dispose of its rubbish and is working with partners Devon County Council and Torbay Council to come up with a joint project that could include an Energy from Waste facility as well as recycling facilities using the latest technological advances.
