The Don’t let Devon go to waste campaign recently thanked Devon residents for all their efforts to reuse, reduce and recycle household waste and packaging. Over 200,000 tonnes of material was recycled in Devon last year instead of being sent to landfill. Devon's recycling rate of 52.62% made it the 2nd best county in England, just pipped at the post by Leicestershire, which had the top rate of 52.64%. So come on Devon, we only need 0.02% more to beat them! Visit the recycledevon.org website to find out how to start recycling and how to recycle as much as you can. Find tips for eco friendly gardening, savvy shopping and saving money, how to order recycling containers and details of recycling collections and the nearest recycling centres to you. If you've ever wondered what happens to your recycling after it's collected, the new Recycle Trail videos show you what happens to materials at the reprocessor and how they are turned into new products. Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Regulatory Services, said: “We are constantly amazed at how hard Devon’s residents work at recycling and we want to say a big thank you to everyone. As well as recycling, it is important that we all do whatever we can to reduce waste and decrease the amount going to landfill. Cutting down on food waste and steering clear of over packaged goods can all help and could save money too. Next year we want to make Devon the number one recycling county but we will need your help to do it. So go to the website, get all the information you need and keep recycling!” |
