Winter Road Safety for Motorbikes

The road safety team at Devon County Council is advising motorcyclists to ride with extra care during the darker winter commutes, and reminding drivers to keep an eye out for bikes.

Bikers are more vulnerable in winter, due to more hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility for drivers, caused by misty or frozen mirrors and windscreens.

However, the Road Safety Team is concerned that riders who take a winter break from their motorbike can become less skilled and less prepared for the next season.

Good riding skills can be maintained by asking motorcyclists to ride all year round, as long as conditions are appropriate.

Some vital tips on improving the safety of motorcyclists riding in winter can be found here: www.maxrider.co.uk/winter-riding.
